The two black stars represent the two main islands — São Tomé and Príncipe.
São Tomé and Príncipe is a tiny island nation in the Gulf of Guinea off the west coast of Africa.
The islands were once the world's largest producer of cocoa, introduced by Portuguese colonisers.
The country gained independence from Portugal in 1975 and adopted this flag at the same time.
