Trinidad and Tobago is the birthplace of Carnival and calypso and soca music.
The steelpan (steel drum) was invented in Trinidad — it is the only acoustic instrument invented in the 20th century.
Black represents the wealth of the land, red represents the warmth of the sun and people, and white represents the sea and purity.
The national flower is the Chaconia — a wild poinsettia that blooms on Independence Day.
