The flag of Western Sahara has three horizontal bands — black, white and green — with a red chevron at the hoist and a red crescent and star in the centre. It is the flag of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR). Western Sahara is a disputed territory in north-west Africa, claimed both by the SADR, declared by the Polisario Front, and by Morocco, which controls most of the territory. The United Nations lists it as a non-self-governing territory.

About the Western Sahara flag

The flag uses the Pan-Arab colours — black, white, green and red — shared with many flags across the Arab world, together with the crescent and star long associated with the region. It was adopted by the Polisario Front in 1976. Because sovereignty over Western Sahara is disputed, the flag's status varies: it flies as the national flag among the Sahrawi people and in areas administered by the SADR, while Morocco administers much of the territory.
