FlagAtlas is designed to be useful for learning as well as entertainment. Students and teachers can use the site when studying geography, countries, maps, history and global cultures.
The resources are also intended to work for parents, homeschooling, classroom activities, quiz fans and anyone who simply wants to learn more about the world.
Who creates FlagAtlas?
FlagAtlas was created and is maintained by an independent UK-based creator with an interest in geography, history, flags and making useful things on the web.
The site started from a simple idea: flags are a surprisingly good way of learning about the world.
A flag can tell you something about a country's history, its people, its politics, its geography and the events that shaped it. But finding that information isn't always straightforward, particularly for students and younger learners.
So FlagAtlas was built to bring that information together — combining flags, country information, history, interactive tools and printable resources in a format that's easy to explore.
It is an ongoing project, and the site continues to grow with new country pages, games, guides and educational resources.
Why did we build FlagAtlas?
There are plenty of websites where you can find a picture of a country's flag.
We wanted to go a little further.
Why does the flag look like that?
What do the colours mean?
Where did the symbols come from?
Has the flag changed over time?
And perhaps most importantly:
What can a flag teach us about the country behind it?
That's what FlagAtlas is about.

FlagAtlas is intended to be free to use. You don't need an account to explore the country pages, learn about flags, play the quizzes or use the printable resources.
The project is continually being developed, with new content and tools added over time.
