🌍 Flag facts
The colours are shared with several Arab nations. On Iraq's flag, red stands for bravery, white for peace, and black for past struggles.
The green writing in the middle says 'Allahu Akbar', which means 'God is Greatest'. It is written in a beautiful style of Arabic called Kufic.
Iraq is home to Mesopotamia, often called the 'cradle of civilisation' — one of the places where writing, cities and the wheel were first invented.
Two great rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, flow through Iraq. The land between them is where some of the world's first farms appeared.
