The flag shown here is the Radiant Volcano, commonly known as Lo Mavéli or Lo Mahavéli. It features a red triangle representing Réunion's volcanic landscape, five golden rays spreading from its summit and a blue background. The design is widely used as a local symbol of the island.
The Radiant Volcano
The design was created by Guy Pignolet in 1975 and was selected in a 2003 competition organised by the Association Réunionnaise de Vexillologie. Several municipalities have subsequently displayed it, and it is widely used to represent Réunion.
