🌍 Flag facts
The globe has 27 stars — one for each of Brazil's 26 states plus its capital district. They're arranged exactly as the night sky looked over Rio de Janeiro on 15 November 1889.
One star sits above the white band and the rest below. That single star stands for the state of Pará, which lies north of the equator.
The white band carries the words "Ordem e Progresso" — Portuguese for "Order and Progress".
Brazil is the largest country in South America and the fifth-largest in the world, and most of the Amazon rainforest is inside it.
