🌍 Flag facts
The colours have meanings: blue for the sky and opportunities, white for peace and wisdom, and red for the warmth of the people and their courage.
This is the state flag, with Costa Rica's coat of arms in a white oval: three volcanoes between two oceans, two sailing ships, a rising sun and seven stars, one for each province.
Costa Rica is famous for its rainforests and wildlife — it's home to sloths, toucans and monkeys, and has no army.
The stripe pattern was inspired by the flag of France, which is why Costa Rica added red to its earlier blue-and-white design in 1848.
