π Flag facts
The big shield is a red-and-white checkerboard of 25 squares. Croatians call it the Ε‘ahovnica, from their word for chess.
The five small shields on top are a crown. Each stands for a different part of Croatia β including one with three lions' heads and one with a golden star and crescent moon.
The three stripe colours β red, white and blue β are the traditional Pan-Slavic colours, shared with several other flags in the region.
Croatia has a long coastline on the Adriatic Sea with over a thousand islands, which makes it a very popular place for holidays.
