🌍 Flag facts
The black shape is a mokorotlo, the traditional straw hat of the Basotho people. It's shaped like a mountain peak and is a proud symbol of Lesotho.
The colours stand for the country's motto, 'Peace, Rain, Prosperity': blue for rain and sky, white for peace, and green for the land.
Lesotho is nicknamed the 'Kingdom in the Sky' because it's so high up — it's the only country in the world that lies entirely above 1,000 metres in altitude.
Lesotho is completely surrounded by one other country — South Africa. It even snows there in winter, and people ride sturdy Basotho ponies through the mountains.
