🌍 Flag facts
The golden lion holding a sword represents bravery and the Sinhalese people. It's based on a very old royal symbol used in Sri Lanka for hundreds of years.
The four golden leaves in the corners are Bo leaves, from the sacred Bodhi tree. They stand for kindness, friendliness, happiness and equanimity — four Buddhist values.
The green and saffron stripes stand for Sri Lanka's Muslim and Hindu communities, while the maroon panel stands for the Sinhalese majority — together showing everyone living under one flag.
Sri Lanka is a tropical island nation south of India, famous for its tea, spices, ancient temples, and its elephants and leopards.
