🌍 Flag facts
The golden lion holding a sword stands for bravery and the Sinhalese people. It is based on a very old royal symbol used in Sri Lanka for hundreds of years.
The four golden leaves in the corners are leaves from the sacred Bodhi tree. They stand for kindness, friendliness, happiness and calm.
The green and saffron stripes stand for Sri Lanka's Muslim and Tamil communities, and the maroon panel for the Sinhalese, showing everyone together under one flag.
Sri Lanka is a tropical island south of India, famous for its tea, spices, ancient temples, elephants and leopards.
