🌍 Flag facts
The red stripe holds five guls, patterns from traditional Turkmen carpets. Each one belongs to one of the five main Turkmen tribes.
The white crescent moon stands for a bright future, and the five stars stand for the five regions of Turkmenistan.
The two olive branches under the carpet patterns were added in 1997. They stand for peace, as Turkmenistan has promised to stay neutral and not take sides in wars.
Turkmenistan is a desert country in Central Asia, home to the huge Karakum Desert, ancient Silk Road cities and the Akhal-Teke horse, famous for its shimmering coat.
