🌍 Flag facts
The cross in the corner is the George Cross, a British medal for bravery. It was given to the whole island of Malta in 1942 for its courage during the Second World War.
The white and red colours are very old and are said to come from the Knights of Malta, who ruled the island for centuries.
Malta is a tiny country made of islands in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital, Valletta, is one of the oldest and most beautiful walled cities in Europe.
Malta is one of the sunniest countries in Europe, with warm weather nearly all year round and crystal-clear blue seas perfect for swimming.
