🌍 Flag facts
In the middle is a golden eagle standing on a cactus and eating a snake. It comes from an ancient Aztec legend: the gods told the Aztecs to build their city where they saw this sight.
The Aztecs built their city, Tenochtitlan, on a lake where they saw the eagle. Today it is Mexico City, the capital, one of the biggest cities in the world.
The colours have special meanings: green for hope, white for unity, and red for the blood of the nation's heroes.
Mexico gave the world some of its most loved foods: chocolate, tomatoes, chillies and corn were first grown here!
