🌍 Flag facts
The white shape is a double-cross (a cross with two bars). It's an old Christian symbol that has stood for this region for over a thousand years.
The three blue hills under the cross stand for three mountain ranges: Tatra, Fatra and Matra. The Tatra Mountains are the highest part of the Carpathians.
The white, blue and red are the Pan-Slavic colours, shared by many Slavic countries in eastern Europe like Russia, Slovenia and Croatia.
Slovakia is a country in central Europe with more castles and chateaux than almost anywhere else in the world for its size — over 100 of them! Its capital city is Bratislava.
