🌍 Flag facts
The Dominican Republic is the only country in the world with a Bible on its flag. The coat of arms shows an open Bible with a small gold cross above it.
The shield is framed by a laurel branch (for victory) on one side and a palm branch (for peace) on the other. The ribbons read "Dios, Patria, Libertad" — God, Homeland, Liberty.
The blue stands for liberty, the red for the blood of heroes, and the white cross for salvation and faith.
The country shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. Christopher Columbus landed on the island in 1492, on his first voyage to the Americas.
