🌍 Flag facts
The gold emblem is an olive wreath with an olive branch inside it. It stands for peace, and it also appeared on Eritrea's first flag, back in 1952.
The colours each have a meaning: red for the blood shed in the fight for freedom, green for farming and the land, and blue for the sea.
Eritrea sits on the Red Sea in the Horn of Africa, with a very long coastline and hundreds of islands.
Eritrea is a young country — it became independent in 1993 after a long struggle, and adopted this flag in 1995.
