🌍 Flag facts
The golden bird is a double-headed eagle — an ancient symbol with two heads looking both east and west. It holds an orb and a sceptre, signs of a ruler's power.
On the eagle's chest is a small shield showing a golden lion, a symbol of bravery and of the church. The eagle comes from the old royal family of Montenegro.
The red field with a gold border is a very royal, regal design — Montenegro was once a kingdom ruled by princes and kings.
The name Montenegro means 'Black Mountain'. It's a small, rugged country on the Adriatic Sea with dramatic mountains, deep canyons and beautiful old coastal towns.
