🌍 Flag facts
The bird is a grey crowned crane, Uganda's national bird. It has a spiky golden crest on its head and is known for its graceful dancing.
Black stands for the people of Africa, yellow for the African sunshine, and red for the brotherhood that links all Africans.
The crane was on Uganda's badge before independence in 1962 and kept its place on the new flag. Its raised leg is said to show the country moving forward.
Uganda is in East Africa and is often called the 'Pearl of Africa'. It is home to Lake Victoria, the source of the River Nile, and about half of the world's mountain gorillas.
