🌍 Flag facts
The golden curl is a boar's tusk. On the islands, curled pig tusks are a traditional sign of wealth and are worn as pendants.
Inside the tusk are two crossed namele leaves from a palm-like plant called a cycad. They stand for peace, and their 39 little leaflets stood for the 39 members of the first parliament.
The golden Y-shape is said to show the shape of the island chain and the light of Christianity. Black stands for the people, red for blood and green for the rich land.
Vanuatu is a chain of about 80 islands in the South Pacific, known for its active volcanoes and coral reefs.
