The real flag has two crossed keys on the white side, standing for the 'keys to the kingdom of heaven' said to have been given to Saint Peter. One key is gold, one is silver.
Above the keys sits a tiara — a crown-shaped hat once worn by the Pope, with three bands standing for his roles as priest, teacher and ruler.
Vatican City's flag is a perfect square, just like Switzerland's — they are the only two square national flags in the world!
Vatican City is the smallest country in the world, sitting inside the city of Rome. It's home to St Peter's Basilica and the Pope, the leader of the Catholic Church.
